Hansel and Gretel

What If?

What if?

What if there's only one door that leads to freedom,
and the person who has the key is your worst enemy?

What if you haven't done anything wrong,
but you are condemned to an eternity of misery and doom?

What if you are a slave to your mind, other's whims, fancies, dreams,
where you can't walk away from something that's caging you, sapping all your energies?

What if everything you have done until now was wrong,
every person you met or loved were not what they seemed?

But....

What if you by letting go of things you can have better things,
by walking away from certain people, you have the chance to be with better people?

What if you can start a new life free from all bondages and expectations,
where you get to know yourself first before you get to know others?

What if you are unafraid of a major change in your life
and you are scared only by the fear of the unknown?

What if you want to be other than what you presently think you are,
and the only thing that's stopping you is you?

What if you have to write the most critical chapter of your life,

and you know where to begin?

"You're on the road, But you've got no destination ... Take me to the other place,  I know I'm not a hopeless case" -U2

Little Jack was there on the road, and for a very long time he was a lost soul. Jack looked at himself in a mirror and asked himself one simple question, "What can I do now?". Then the mirror replied, "Here's your chance to be free, to live at your own pace". Jack learnt from that, learnt not to rush into going for gold just because it glitters, not to accept ways of life just because everyone wanted him to, not to fall for people when they say beautiful words. He learnt to take his time- weeks, months, years even? but he will wait. Whatever he lost, he gained so much more.

When Jack had something constantly at the back of his mind, a paper was only ever a paper to him, but when the mind was free, he could think of seven different ways of using a paper: writing on it, creating shapes out of it, sketching on it, using it as a fan, waxing it to make it look like a parchment, making it into an envelope, using it to blot something. When his mind was free, he wasn't just satisfied by listening to music, he wanted to create some of his own. When his mind was free, he was rarely bothered by all the terrible things that people said to him.

The glass can either be half full or half empty, Jack decided that it was half full. There was a choice between being  happy and being sad, Jack chose to be happy.Jack didn't care for the grass on the other side of the fence.

Little Jack went to that other place...

Will You?

Will You?

Will you lie,
to undo a wrong?

Will you stay true to yourself,
and risk the anger and wrath of others?

Will you stay quiet,
when prejudice and unjustness reigns?

Will you speak your mind,
when people expect silence from you?

Will you stay silent,
and not get involved in nonsense talk?

Will you drop your basket of roses and fight for your friend,
when he has lost all hope and is pursued by ghosts?

Will you try to sing,
even when there's no one in sight?

Will you keep helping others,
when no help is returned?

Will you keep trusting people,
when your outstretched hand is not taken and shook?

Will you forget this mail now,
and think of others that don't ask such questions?

Will YOU?
